2017 Keeneland and Breeder’s Cup Fashion: Featuring MILLY Trunk Show

It’s officially Fall and the month of October has begun! October in Kentucky has an extra special place in our hearts with return of racing season and the reopening of Keeneland. Not to mention the much anticipated Breeders Cup which will make its debut at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, where the turf meets the surf Southern California style. Whether you plan to watch and celebrate these events live in Kentucky, California or even a private party at home, Bella Rose is your racing fashion destination. As Lexington Kentucky’s #1 readers choice for best women’s boutique and Derby style we have the designers and style you want to see and be seen at the years biggest racing events.

Keeneland Style

Gates open this year for Keeneland’s Fall Race Meet, this Friday, October 6th and are open until Saturday, October 28th. As anyone who’s ever experienced Keeneland for themselves knows, it involves so much more than simply betting on the ponies. While it does help to learn to bet on sports before you go, and if you don’t have time to learn how to bet on the horses the you can always look online. There are loads of sites that offer betting advice for all kinds of sports. Apparently, Racinginfo.co have some of the best professional horse tips with years of racing experience, so you could take a look there. But you can still have a great time at the races without betting. It’s a full-scale experience of racing, food, fun, and, of course … fashion. So what will you wear to Keeneland this year?

If you’re going to stay near the Paddock –General Admission, Grandstand, or Equestrian Room– there’s no need to dress up very much. Guys often opt for khakis and polo shirts, and women can wear slacks. These are the areas nearest the track itself, and people are truly there to watch (and bet on) the horses. With that said, don’t be surprised to see a lot of dresses and sport coats in the lower-levels.

If you’ll be dining in the upper-level, enclosed dining rooms– The Lexington, Kentucky, or Phoenix Rooms– then expect to dress for a business event. The Lexington and Kentucky Rooms, dining rooms often reserved for business and social gatherings, have a “business formal” dress code; these areas require men to don a coat and tie, and skirts/dresses/dressy slacks for ladies. The Phoenix Room, another reserved dining room, is “business casual”, requiring collared shirts and slacks for men and dresses/pantsuits for ladies.

Regardless of what section you will be visiting Keeneland is a great excuse to play dress up. You’ll want to keep your style versatile to accommodate the changing seasons and any variances of temperatures throughout the day. Try layering your favorite fall dress with a cashmere sweater, vest or cute jacket. For an edgier look we love seeing a great jumpsuit at the racetrack, especially one that just so happens to come in Kentucky Pride blue!

Breeder’s Cup Style

This year The Breeder’s Cup will make its debut at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club on November 3rd and 4th. Racetrack fashion has changed a little over the decades but looks are still heavily classic, with just the right touches of trendiness. This is no surprise since Del Mar Raceway has been a favorite stomping ground for celebrities since the day it opened. Channel classical star style as you shop for the look that’s just right, and you can’t go wrong.

The Del Mar raceway is normally blessed with warm, sunny weather. A cool coastal breeze often helps patrons beat the heat, but dressing right for the weather is just as important as dressing to impress. Choosing clothing that is lightweight and breezy is key. Be sure to add accessories such as a statement necklace or a few of your favorite bangles or tasseled earring in keeping with the ever popular tassel trend. Whether you normally go for an eye-catching look or not, enjoy this opportunity to dress the part.
